INS Vikrant

November 25, 2014 01:00 am | Updated 01:00 am IST

The report and the accompanying picture said it all (“ >INS Vikrant fades into history, BJP says it was too late to save it ,” Nov. 23). Sending INS Vikrant to its graveyard is a classic example of how we respect our history. The government allots a major sum of money in the annual budget for defence. Yet, would saving this great ship have entailed so huge an expense? Vikrant is a legend; it inspired our Navy and infused confidence in our people. Therefore, the government could have easily converted it into a museum. That the BJP has gone back on its word and blamed the previous Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra for what has happened shows that it behaves like any other political party when it comes to keeping a promise.
