Targeting security forces: IED explodes in Orakzai, no loss reported

A political administration official said a powerful explosive device was planted along the roadside

An IED planted by unidentified militants exploded in Lower Orakzai Agency early Monday morning, but fortunately no injuries were reported.


A political administration official said a powerful explosive device was planted along the roadside in the Brahamzai area to target security forces. However, it exploded prematurely and no loss was reported as a result.

The official added the explosion panicked locals after which security officials cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

Meanwhile, a rocket planted by unidentified militants in Hangu was defused by the bomb disposal unit (BDU).



Khanullah Khan, an official of Hangu city police, said militants planted the rocket in Mullahabad area in order to fire it into Brahamzai area of Lower Orakzai Agency.  However, a pedestrian spotted it and informed the police, who rushed to the site with BDU officials and defused the shell.

The official said the shell weighed around 25 kilogrammes. He added a case has been filed and further investigation is under way.
