MBABANE – Correctional netball sides, Springbok and Cheetahs, have maintained their dominance in the Mr Matata Open tournament.

Springbok recorded back-to-back victories against Mbabane Raiders and Fashion International while Cheetahs also proved too strong for Umbutfo Swaziland Defence Force (USDF) and Jaguars to keep their foot on the accelerator.

This transpired during day two of the inaugural tournament at Zakhele Netball Courts in Manzini on Saturday. Confirming the results, National Netball Association of Swaziland (NNAS) Management Committee Secretary Mpumie Dlamini, said it was also an action-packed weekend in the B Division as finalists were decided.

Tingculungculu, boasting of veteran players that include former NNAS President Norma Sibandze and Umpire Director Mavis Smith, have a date with Kartat in the final set for Saturday.

Debutants, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and Two Sticks from Manzini, defied all odds to contest the third place play-offs.
“The finals will be played at Zakhele. The winners in the seniors division will be the team with the most number of points.”
Meanwhile, NNAS President Mandisa Sigudla, commended the teams for their spirited display, saying Saturday’s festivities were spiced up by the presence of Manzini Ward One Councillor Sandile Bhembe.

The tournament, which kicked off over a week ago, is a curtain-raiser for the league set to start early next year. The champions in all divisions will get trophies and medals, courtesy of the sponsor, Mr Matata.
