In the men's doubles event, Robredo paired up with Sriram Balaji to edge past Juan Carlos Ferrero and Sanam Singh 6-5 in the tie-breaker to keep Mumbai alive in the competition. The hosts, who take on Punjab Marshalls today, needed to beat Delhi tonight to stay alive in the competition.

Earlier in the day, World No 15 Jelena Jankovic beat Alize Cornet 6-5 in the third set. Jankovic took advantage of a minor injury to Cornet's leg in the latter stages of their set to edge past the World No 19 6-5 in the tie-breaker and give the visitors a 16-14 lead with two sets still to play.

Cornet had earlier paired with Robredo to post a come-from-behind 6-4 win in the mixed doubles match against Jankovic and Singh.

The Robredo-Cornet pairing were down 1-4 against Singh and Jankovic at one stage but won six consecutive games to take the score to 9-10 after two sets, much to the jubilation of the 250-odd people who turned up at the stadium.

The Mumbai franchise had fallen behind 3-6 in the first set as their legend Sergi Bruguera was beaten by his compatriot Ferrero.
