Develop cyclone-resilient farming: CM to scientists
BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday urged agriculture scientists to develop cyclone-resilient farming.
"Uncertain extreme climatic events are playing havoc with agricultural productivity in this part of the country. I urge upon the scientific community to give a thought to new research," said Naveen.
He was speaking at the national conference on plant physiology at Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) here.

Naveen said, "Scientists must work on developing a robust root system for orchard crops. The system should provide stronger anchorage against impact of cyclone and minimize damage."
Over 300 scientists, researchers and famers from across the country are participating in the conference.
"The conference will help design action plan to meet the changing weather conditions and increase productivity. A set of recommendations will be sent to the state and central governments for considering them during planning policies," said vice-chancellor of OUAT Manoranjan Kar.
Agriculture minister Pradeep Maharathy said, "Keeping in mind the high levels of acidity and salinity of soil in the state, the government has recently amended the agricultural policy guidelines and earmarked funds for revamping soil-testing laboratories."
