STUDENTSPEAK - A medical odyssey
ISHANI BASU, Third-year student, Guangxi Medical University, Nanning, Guangxi, China
The medical profession drew me as it entails a lot of responsibility, dedication and strength. I am now in my third year of MBBS in China.
China, however, was not my first choice Ishani Basu for studying medicine. Back home, after completing class XII and taking medical entrance tests, I faced hurdles in securing a seat of my choice.
Countries like China and Russia offer MBBS courses to foreign students that are on a par with global degrees. That was when I heard about this college and decided on enrolling for a five-year UG programme. Once I decided on the college, the admission process was simple. I got in touch with agents. It is important, while applying to such programmes in China, that one understands the admission procedure and identifies a guide or seek the help of students from that college. College admissions in this country are on the basis of marks and there are no entrance tests. After completing MBBS in China, one can take the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination to register as practising doctors in India.
The cost of study in China depends on the grade of the university. Colleges here are graded on factors such as infrastructure, faculty and other parameters. The higher the grade, the costlier it is. The tuition fee at my university is 30,000 RMB per year.
