Arizona State was 8-1 and favored going into the 1964 Territorial Cup in Tucson but fell behind 15-0 in the first half and lost to Arizona for the fourth time in five years, 30-6.

UA dominated up front on both sides of the ball, out-rushing the Sun Devils 203 to (minus) 23. That forced ASU quarterback John Torok, playing through a shoulder sprain, to attempt 47 passes, six of which the Wildcats intercepted.

"This sort of shows you what happens when you pass too much," UA coach Jim LaRue said. "I'm sure (ASU coach) Frank Kush wishes he didn't have to."

The Sun Devils closed the lead to 15-6 in the third quarter then, after a Rickie Harris interception, Floyd Hudlow broke off a 58-yard run for the first of his two touchdowns.

"At the first of the week, there were doubts," Hudlow said. "But by game time I was psyched so high I was crying. Make no mistake. We wanted this one — and went out and got it."

UA finished 6-3-1 and tied for first in the Western Athletic Conference with New Mexico and Utah.
