SURI: Trinamool-turned-BJP leader Sadai Seikh, who was allegedly involved in a number of cases, including attacking the police at Chowmandalpur and the murder of Mojammel Seikh at Makhra, was arrested on Saturday night.
Sadai left Trinamool to join BJP after last Lok Sabha election and became a cause of headache for the ruling party. Sadai was arrested from the house of Kabul Seikh at Bharkata village in Mohammad Bazaar police station area.
He was produced in Suri court on Sunday.
The police sought 14 days’ remand, but the court granted only 12 days’ remand, said government lawyer Bikash Patitandi.
He was slapped with sections 302, 307,147 and149 of Indian Penal Code, and other relevant sections of Arms Act.
On Sunday, Trinamool leaders, including district party president Anubrata Mondal, Birbhum Zilla Parishad sabhadhipati Bikash Roy Chowdhury and minister Chandranath Sinha went to the strife-torn Jadavpur village in Parui. They held a meeting there and assured party supporters of security cover. The Trinamool leaders claimed that their supporters, who had to leave home following the clash, returned home on Sunday.

District BJP leader Nirmal Mondal said, “The Trinamool leaders have started recovering their grip soon after the arrest of Sadai. We apprehend that our party supporters will have to face fresh torture,” he added.
On October 24, a police team was attacked when they raided Chowmandalpur village, within the limits of Parui police station in Bolpur sub-division, to recover arms and ammunition. On October, 26 three persons were killed when a clash broke out at Makhra, two kilometers away from Chowmandalpur.
Nurela Bibi, elder sister of Mojammel who was killed in the clash, lodged a complaint against 23 persons, including Sadai. Sadai had been absconding since then.
