9-month-old shot by father cleaning illegal gun: law enforcement

A 9-month-old girl was shot in her side by her father who was cleaning his illegal gun inside his Brooklyn home, law enforcement said.

The mom and dad said they were riding a subway train and when they got off at the Myrtle Avenue station, the baby began to cry.

They told police they looked at her, realized she was bleeding, and took her to nearby Woodhull Hospital.

Police later charged the parents, Pedro Rosales, 47, and Jessica Aguilar, 24, after going to their Brownsville home and noticing, through a partially opened front door, a gun lying on the floor, a law-enforcement source told The Post.

Police found out Rosales was cleaning his Colt .45 handgun when it accidentally discharged and struck his young child, cops said.

The child’s injury was not considered life-threatening and is being treated at Bellevue Hospital, cops said.

Rosales was charged with assault, acting in a manner injurious to a child, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon. Aguilar was charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child and reckless endangerment.

The shooting came on the same day two young children died in the city.

Kay-lee Williams, 3, was discovered unconscious inside her family’s Rosedale, Queens, home at around 10:30 a.m., police said.

She was rushed to Franklin General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Rose Sanders, 17 months, was found unconscious by her mother in their West 100th Street apartment at 4:30 a.m. She died at St. Luke’s Hospital.

The mother told a neighbor the girl died in her sleep. “She said she was sleeping and the baby’s hand went limp,’’ neighbor Diana Williams said. “Her heart wasn’t beating anymore and she called 911.’’
