S. Ranjith (31) of Indra Nagar near Amaravathi in Udumalpet reportedly ended his life by jumping from the fourth floor of a private hospital on Avanashi Road on Saturday.

The Peelamedu Police, who registered a case and were investigating, said that the man had come to enquire with the hospital staff about his wife Vanitha’s (25) health.

According to the police, he was upset when the staff informed him that she was unconscious and that her health was in bad shape.

Police sources said that he was admitted to the same hospital and was referred to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital where he was declared ‘brought dead.’

Meanwhile, the police say that there were inconsistencies in the manner of how Vanitha became unconscious on Friday night.

Amaravathi Police said that the couple were married five years ago and had a two-year-old daughter. It was learnt that the couple fought frequently and the woman lived with her parents in Tirunelveli.

The police said that after a rapprochement between the couple was brought about with the intervention of their relatives, Vanitha had come to live with her husband for the past week.

Police sources said that on Friday, Ranjith and some of his relatives, admitted Vanitha to a hospital in Udumalpet.

He had informed the police that she had become unconscious after she was knocked down by an unidentified jeep. During the wee hours of Saturday, she was shifted to the private hospital in Coimbatore.

Police suspect that she could have become unconscious consequent to about of domestic violence.

However, police said that the truth could be known only after Vanitha recovers consciousness.
