INDORE: Three motorcycle-borne youths snatched a gold chain from a 50-year-old woman in Aerodrome area on Saturday afternoon, just when the city police higher ups were detailing media about busting a gang of three chain snatcher youths at the city police control room.
Ramkumari Kasliwal, a resident of Kalani Nagar locality was returning home after visiting her close relative in adjacent Anjani Nagar, when three youths on a motorbike snatched her gold chain and decamped from the spot, leaving the woman behind shouting for help.
Matter was subsequently reported by the woman at Aerodrome police station and a case registered against unidentified accused under Section 392 of IPC. At the same time, DIG Indore Rakesh Gupta addressed a press conference at the city police control room about the nabbing of three youths, who have admitted committing at least 24 chain snatchings across city.
Identified as Vishal Tyagi, 19, son of an upper division clerk at Depalpur court, Jai Ahirwar, 18, the son of a RTO head constable and Devendra Tiwari, 18, son of a transport company employee; arrested trio have admitted snatching chains from Palasia, Chhatripura, Rajendra Nagar, MIG, and other areas of the city.
Vishal was nabbed by commoners from a chat shop near Sarafa on Thursday night and he subsequently led cops to his two other aides. All the 24 chain snatchings were committed this year only. All three youths are childhood school friends and had passed out from a premier school in Scheme 78 area some months back, DIG said.
He added that all three youths were good bikers, who had joined the gang of another chain snatcher Aman Chouhan last year, but later started operating on their own. “They had a fetish for living life king size, indulging in late night parties and also consuming high class cuisine and liquor. They had several girlfriends and often snatched chains to splurge money on their friends,” Gupta said. Their interrogation has also revealed that the trio, after selling the booty at selected shops, even used to spend the money for bringing calls girls from cities like Mumbai.
