BHOPAL: Spat between former Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board chairman Gufran-e-Azam and present incumbent Shoukat Mohammed Khan took a new turn on Saturday, with both sides claiming to have clinching evidence in the alleged land scam. Azam was booked by the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference, Azam refuted allegations and stated exchange of Waqf land with another plot in Kurwai, Vidisha district was approved by an overwhelming majority of the members of MP Waqf Board in 2011.

He said that nine of the eleven members including him had signed the proposal passed for exchange of the said land while only two members were against the proposal, who later moved the court. They included include Congress MLA from North Bhopal Arif Aqueel, who Azam also blames for raking up the issue.
Sources in the MP Waqf Board said that eight member of the former board have now turned against Gufran and alleged they were never in support of the deal.
"I am neither a goon, who compelled board members to sign on gunpoint nor would I get frightened with these pressure tactics," said Gufran who is also a former vice-president of the state Congress party.
Continuing with its investigations on Saturday, EOW seized all the original documents related with the case.
