Robbers open fire in North-East Delhi

In another incident reported from Gokulpuri in North-East Delhi, a 35-year-old shop-keeper was shot at allegedly by three armed men after he tried to stop them from looting his shop.

According to the police, the victim, identified as Santosh Kumar (35), was with his brother and father at his confectionery shop when the incident took place on Friday around 9-50 p.m.

“The victim was about to close the shop after finishing his day’s work when three men entered the shop and pointed a gun at his father. When he tried to raise an alarm, the robbers shot at him,” said a police officer.

“The first two bullets brushed past Santosh’s head after which he held the hand of the shooter. But soon the robber fired another bullet, which hit him right on the mid-section of his body,” the officer added.

Santosh was taken to GTB Hospital where he is currently admitted at the intensive care unit. His condition is reported to be critical with the bullet having affected his large intestine.

After the incident, the robbers fled the scene and the victim’s brother called up the police control room to report the incident. The police reached the spot and rushed Santosh to the hospital.

A few hours after the incident, one of the robbers, identified as Azaad (23), was arrested. But the other two, who have been identified, are still at large.

“The accused men have been registered under charges of attempt to murder and robbery,” the police officer added.
