Two more road accidents occurred near the deadly Thehri bypass on National Highway on Saturday. This is the same area where an accident claimed over 59 lives on November 11.
Nearly 24 people were injured in the first accident that took place at a diversion near Thehri bypass. A bus (P-0307), which was carrying a wedding procession from Jhat Pat in Balochistan to Moro, flipped as the tyre burst. The driver was trying to negotiate the deadly diversion when the accident took place.
The injured people, most of whom were women and children, were rushed to Civil Hospital, Khairpur, where the condition of two persons was said to be critical.
In the second accident at another diversion near Thehri bypass, nearly 19 people were injured. A passenger wagon, with licence plate MNS-773, was on its way to Kandiyaro from Jacobabad when its tyre burst and the vehicle flipped. All the injured persons were also rushed to Civil Hospital, Khairpur. They were identified as Nabi Bux, Ghulam Mustafa, Sanaullah, Nizamuddin, Bagan Khan, Fida Hussain, Bashir Ahmed, Niaz Ali, Shahzadi, Rafiq Ahmed, Rehmat Bibi, Aamir Ali, Haji Mir Hassan, Abdul Rehman, Majid Ali, Ghulam Rasool, Imdad Ali, Abdul Ghafoor, Hurmat Mai, and others.
Azhar Hussain a member of the Jafferia Disaster Management Cell in Khairpur, told The Express Tribune that this particular diversion near Thehri bypass has become very dangerous and should be repaired immediately.
Meanwhile, there were two more accidents in upper Sindh, one of which claimed a life. In Ghotki, a car collided with a speeding trailer and caught fire near the Lal Shah stop on National Highway and injured all the five occupants. The speeding trailer hit the car, which carried a family that was travelling from Multan and was on its way to Kandiyaro.
Several nearby residents rushed to the spot to put out the fire and informed the police. The injured people, identified as Atiqur Rehman, Shafiqur Rehman, Shabana, eight-year-old Saima and seven-year-old Saiqa, were shifted to a taluka hospital in Ghotki. Shafiq and Atiq were referred to a Sukkur hospital as they were in critical condition. As there is no burns centre in upper Sindh, most of the victims lose their lives on their way to Karachi. The police have also arrested the trailer driver and impounded the vehicle.
Meanwhile, in Shikarpur, a road accident claimed one life and injured five others. The accident took place near Chowk bypass, within the limits of New Faujdari police, when a speeding trailer tried to overtake a Qingqi rickshaw that was on its way to Khanpur from Shikarpur.
A passenger, Farid Ahmed Sanjrani, died on the spot, while rickshaw driver Hazar Khan Pahore and other passengers, Karim Bux Brohi, Ali Muhammad Brohi, Muhammad Hayat Brohi and Ghulam Ahad Pahore, were injured and shifted to Civil Hospital, Shikarpur.
Later, Hazar Khan and Hayat were referred to a Larkana hospital in critical condition. The police have arrested trailer driver Muhammad Iqbal Brohi and impounded the vehicle but they have yet to register the case.
