Urine and saliva of Ebola patient test negative

The 26-year-old man, who had undergone Ebola treatment in Liberia and is presently quarantined at Airport Health Organisation Quarantine Centre here, is symptom free. His urine and saliva samples, tested at National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on November 21, have tested negative for Ebola virus, health ministry officials said.

However, officials said he would continue to remain in the quarantine until his semen samples, which had tested positive for Ebola in tests conducted on November 17 and 18, are found to be negative.

Union health officials on Saturday directed state secretaries to “sensitise private practitioners and members of mass media” on screening and isolation guidelines for Ebola.

Private hospitals are yet to receive guidelines on precautions and the Indian Medical Association (IMA), had written to the Centre requesting that private doctors be included in government preparations for Ebola.

State authorities were asked to conduct mock drills involving airports and isolation facilities and also in donning and taking off personal protective equipment by health workers.
