Accused in murder of BJP leader held in Noida

Police said one of the men, identified as Ashok Gujjar, used the cover of gunfire to escape in the dark, but Ankit Gujjar was arrested.

The Uttar Pradesh Police Special Task Force (STF) arrested Ankit Gujjar, an alleged contract killer, after an exchange of fire near the Mortuary Crossing in Noida Sector 39 on Friday night.

Gujjar, police said, is named in 15 cases of murder, extortion and kidnapping across two states. His arrest carried a reward of  Rs 50,000 in Uttar Pradesh and Rs 25,000 in Haryana. He is also the prime accused in the murder of Noida BJP leader Vijay Pandit, who was shot dead on June 11.

Police said they received information that Gujjar would be at a liquor store near the Mortuary Crossing in Sector 39.  “Our team flagged down their Honda City. The driver rammed the car into the police van in an attempt to flee. But he lost control and crashed into the divider. The two men in the car began firing at us,” Umesh Kumar Singh, Superintendent (STF), Western Uttar Pradesh, said.
