Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel Saturday said it was the women who created most garbage in their neighbourhood.
Speaking at a at inauguration of two day long National Youth Sammelan organised by Shree Sharda Math at Valsad Patel said, “Mahilain methi laati hai, thepla banati hai aur phir kachara bahar phek deti hai( women bring fenugreek leaves, makes thepla(Gujarati bread) and then throw away the refuse outside in the street)”, said Patel
She added, “Not just home, the women should also try to keep vicinity clean. There is need for them to pick up the broom in their hands”. Patel was referring to practice of throwing kitchen and other house refuse out onto the streets, which leaves home clean but surroundings dirty.
The Chief Minister also called the women and young-girls to take a pledge to join the Abhiyaan of constructing ‘In-House Toilet’ facility. The state has been actively participating in the Swachah Bharat Abhiyan call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
She also added that the higher literacy among women is the only option to uplift their position in the family and society. Patel also termed the traditional customs like ‘Sati’, non-breast feeding to newly born baby-girl, killing of female foetus and others as the black-spots on face of the Indian society.
She also said, ‘No nation or society can make progress without educating, culturing and empowering the women. The women must contribute 50 % share in the development of the state and nation.’
Quoting Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy, Patel said it is the right of every young-girl to get education, self-reliance, and healthy living style. For empowering the women, the state government has taken several initiatives like Health Card, separate toilets for girls and boys in the schools, 33% reservation for women in police force, and others, the Chief Minister added.
