Infosys founder N.R. Narayana Murthy on Friday said that India needs a healthy population in age group of 40 years to 60 years to boost the country’s economic growth from present five per cent to nine per cent in the next 10 years.
In his inaugural address at the 42 conclave of Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) held in the city, Mr. Murthy said that India is now one of the fastest growing economy of the world.
“It is possible to keep pace with the present trend only if India has a healthy population in the productive age group,” he said.
Researchers in diabetes should come out with a better solution to fight the condition effectively, he said adding that it is a prime responsibility of the medical fraternity to provide better care to people affected by diabetes.
“We all as engineers, doctors have a big responsibility to bring smiles on the faces of suffering humanity,” he said.
More than 6,000 delegates are taking part in the three-day seminar to deliberate on the latest developments of diabetes care. At least 200 scientific papers are being presented by experts.
Organising Chairman of the conclave K.R. Narasimha Shetty felicitated Mr Murthy on the occasion.
