MLA stages novel protest in Puducherry

November 22, 2014 11:35 am | Updated 11:35 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Ruling AINRC MLA and Chairman of Puducherry Agro Services and Industries Corporation (PASIC) Ashok Anand on Friday resorted to a novel protest at the office of the Department of Adi Dravidar Welfare at Thattanchavady seeking immediate action on the issue of delay in implementation of the housing scheme for the downtrodden.

Mr. Ashok Anand sat on fast by spreading a symbolic pyre outside the office of the Director of Adi-dravidar Welfare protesting the inordinate delay in sanctioning financial assistance to beneficiaries from his constituency for construction of houses.

He alleged that Thattanchavady constituency had been virtually neglected by the Department without operating any of the schemes for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes.

Mr. Anand said that the Department was yet to release the first instalment for construction of houses to around 14 beneficiaries from Thattanchavady who had applied under the government scheme.

He alleged that the authorities had issued a cheque to one of the beneficiaries without the knowledge of the local MLA.

Attitude

When he met the officials and sought details he was told that the file relating to the list of beneficiaries had gone missing. The attitude of the authorities needed to be changed at the earliest, he said.

Mr. Anand said that he would continue with his fast till the Secretary for Adi-dravidar Welfare came to the office and redressed his grievances.
