One day a beautiful cow with long brown ears, big golden eyes, and a long white tail walked into the yard of a carpenter who was very busy building a table and chairs.

“Well,” said the carpenter, as he took note of the cow. “Aren’t you a beauty! And you look about as healthy as a cow can look. So, what can I do for you?”

The cow eyed the carpenter, swatted a few flies with its tail, blinked softly then meowed like a cat.

Surprised by the cow meowing the carpenter fell backward and hit his head on a bench. He passed out immediately, leaving the cow to think of what to do.

“I will go the carpenter’s house,” thought the cow, “and see if there is anyone at home.”

On her way to the front door the cow stopped.

“With my meow no one will believe that I’ve come with the intention of aiding the carpenter. As soon as open my mouth, whoever has come to the door will also fall backward.”

Just then the carpenter’s cat walked up. “Can I help you,” mooed the cat.

“Of course you can,” meowed the cow. And together they knocked on the front door.
