Yeng happier being called a ‘musician,’ not a ‘pop rock princess’

The evolution of Yeng Constantino.

The music of singer-songwriter Yeng Constantino takes another leap with the release of her sixth album “All about Love.”

Earlier this month when she posted on her Facebook page that the album is “now on Spotify,” fans went gaga.

The new album, her fifth studio effort, is a full-spectrum showcase of Yeng’s talent as a songwriter and a singer.

Deserving

It also shows her haters why she’s dubbed the “pop rock princess.”

“Sa mga galit sakin dahil 'pop rock princess' ang titolo ko sa industriya, gusto ko po talaga ang titolong ito at pangarap ko po na matawag ako nito,” she posted on Nov. 3 on yeng.ph.

“Masaya po ako na narating ko na ang pangarap ko at naalala ko pa noong sinasabi ko sa sarili ko na na balang araw... at nandito na ako.”

Evolving

If the new album doesn’t convince you how far Yeng has come, she spells it out in her post.

“Sa totoo lang nag-eevolve ako bilang artist. Hindi ko na rin gusto makulong sa pop rock ang genre ng musika ko,” she wrote.

And even if she feels she deserves the Pop Princess tag, “narealize ko na hindi mahalaga ang titolo,” she wrote.

Musician, please

“Ngayon mas masaya akong matawag na musician dahil iyon naman talaga ako,” she added.

During the recent press conference of Arnel Pineda's Asian Music Camp, Yeng made heads turn when she sang an acoustic version of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean."

She held her own convincingly even if the press was there to wait for Arnel Pineda showcase his lung power—no more, no less.

Rose among icons

She is expected to do the same when she takes the Araneta Coliseum stage tonight (Nov. 21) with Rico Blanco and Gloc-9 in their concert called ICON.

Does Yeng deserve the “icon” title?

If only for the fact she has flourished exceptionally following her win in Pinoy Dream Academy, that “Chinito” became, for many, 2013’s song of the year, then we can say that she’s on the road to becoming one.

Plus her new album “All about Love” seals the deal when it comes to showing off her songwriting skills, the heartfelt lyrics and vocals that her fans so love and an assurance that’s bound to win fresh following.

As she told both her fans and haters: “Mas lalo niyong maririnig ang evolution ng music ko sa aking sixth album.”

ICON: The Concert, directed by Paul Basinilio, happens on Friday, Nov. 21 at the Araneta Coliseum. Tickets at P424, 742, 1060, 2120, 3180, 3710 and 4770 are available at Ticketnet.
