World class musicians including Rodrigo y Gabriela, Aslan, Sharon Corr and Damien Dempsey are to feature in the new online series the 'Windmill Lane Sessions'.

The series, which will be available exclusively on Independent.ie, goes live tomorrow.

Fronted by award-winning journalist Barry Egan, it will combine in-depth interviews with live performances from acclaimed artists.

For many, Windmill Lane Studio is the pulsating heart of Ireland's recording industry; this is where U2 crafted some of their seminal albums including 'Boy', 'War' and 'The Joshua Tree'.

Dubbed the "U2 Studio", Windmill has welcomed a variety of global superstars over the years, including The Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga and the owner of pop's most famous posterior, Kylie Minogue.

Shot on location, 'Windmill Lane Sessions' will see musicians perform an original track and a cover.

Between riffs, they will be quizzed by Egan about their careers.

The first six episodes will premiere this Sunday with Mexican acoustic guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela, The Walls, Dublin quintet The Hot Sprockets, singer songwriter Mundy, and Morrissey & Marshall all featuring. A new episode will be posted every Sunday from now until February 2015.

The Riptide Movement, Damien Dempsey and The Blades will feature in future episodes.

"This has been seven months hard slog," Egan said. "But this project shows Independent News & Media's commitment to innovation, entertainment and great live music."
