PATNA: The Union government will launch the scheme for direct transfer of cooking gas subsidy to the gas consumers’ bank accounts in all the 38 districts of Bihar from January 1. The scheme has been christened Modified Direct Benefits Transfer of Liquefied petroleum gas (MDBTL).
This was announced by the Indian Oil Corporation’s state general manager RS Dahiya at a press conference here on Friday.
Under this scheme, LPG customers who don't have an Aadhaar card can also avail subsidy by linking their bank accounts with LPG subscription.
This is being done as the process of linking the beneficiaries' accounts with Aadhaar is low. According to available data for 19 districts of the state, Aadhaar enrolment is even less than 15%. There are approximately 59 lakh LPG consumers in the state and the average Aadhaar enrolment across the state is 18%. Dahiya said a sum of Rs 568 will be credited to the customers’ accounts as soon as they book LPG cylinder after connecting either the Aadhaar or bank account number with the gas subscription, He said, “MDBTL was launched in 54 districts of the country from November 15 and it would cover the entire nation from January 1 next year.”
Elaborating on MDBTL, Dahiya said there would be two modes of registering customers. In the first mode, customers can approach their LPG distributor. “Under this mode, customers will have to fill up the requisite forms to enter his bank account details along with LPG consumer number.” In the second mode, customers can approach bank. “Here, a customer has to provide his LPG consumer ID at the bank branch. This would be verified with the LPG database and after verification, it would me made operational for receiving subsidy.”
