The 2015 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Malta has been launched and the theme is "The Commonwealth: Adding Global Value," Malta's Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Kamalesh Sharma announced on Friday.

The 2015 summit meeting place was unanimously decided during last years' CHOGM in Sri Lanka.

Muscat explained that preparations were well under way and the main events would take place against a backdrop of Malta's historical locations, including Fort St. Angelo.

The 53-member Commonwealth, which will be held in November 2015, convenes every two years and aims to bring together leaders of member countries to discuss common themes and initiatives.

Sharma said despite its small size, Malta was indeed well prepared to host the conference: "Malta's leadership on ideas and practical action for small states has been exceptional. Ten years ago, its work with the Commonwealth on creating resilience profiles for small states is now accepted by major global institutions. The fact that a country is small does not mean that it cannot add global value."

A series of parallel events including a business forum, youth forum and a people's forum will also be held in the week leading up the CHOGM, as well as a woman's forum which will be launched for the first time. Enditem
