Shocking! Gangrape victim’s husband set on fire by UP cops
Lucknow, Nov 21: The Uttar Pradesh Police is again in news and this time too for wrong reason. A gangrape victim in Baghpat district of the State has alleged that the police have not only forced her to compromise with the accused but also set her husband ablaze for refusing to follow their suggestions.
According to report in India Today, the victim is a resident of Badka Road near Badaut, she has alleged that she was gangraped by her husband's cousin and three others on November 17 when she was alone at home.
She alleged that despite several visits to the police station, the police did not register their complaint. According to report, she said instead of lodging complaint, the police suggested them to compromise with the accused.
The victim said that when the police didn't pay any heed to their complaint her husband approached local media. She said inspector Feroz Akhtar from the local police station visited their home and tried to pressurise them for a compromise with the accused. But, when her husband refused to accept his offer, the policeman set him ablaze.
Meanwhile, the police have denied all the allegations and claimed that victim's husband has self-immolated himself.
Recently, the Uttar Pradesh Police was in news for making controversial comments that "mobile phone culture, bad influence of western culture and indecent dressing sense among women" are some of the reasons behind the spurt in rape cases. The bizarre comment was a part of a reply to a right to information (RTI) query submitted to the office of the director general of police in Lucknow.
RTI activist Lokesh Khurana had sought information on the number of rapes in each district of the state, measures taken by the administration to curb the menace, number of arrests made and the possible reasons behind the spurt.
