INDORE: District court has ordered an FIR against Oriental University bosses for allegedly running engineering courses without recognition from All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).
Hearing petition of Sanjay Kotwar, who took admission in diploma in civil engineering course in the university in 2011, judicial magistrate first class DR Kumhare ordered to register a case for fraud under Section 420 of IPC against varsity’s founder chancellor KL Thakral, director Gaurav Thakral and principal HR Singh.
Petitioner counsel Mahendra Mishra said, “The court has found that students are being misled with false advertisement.” AICTE regional officer in Bhopal Sandeep Salodkar said Oriental University is not recognized by the apex regulatory body. Kotwar after completing plus two from MP Board took admission on the basis of a pamphlet provided by the university mentioning that university is AICTE-recognized to run engineering courses.
In December 2012, students and students’ union leaders had staged a protest on varsity campus for allegedly deceiving students.
However, university officials remained adamant that university had prior recognition to run courses.
Though students demanded police action, no FIR was registered against the university. Governor, too, gave a clean chit to the university after which students moved court.
Students’ union leaders have planned to corner the university and concerned authorities that so far did not act despite several complaints.
Pankaj Prajapati, an activist, said, “Clean chit to university raises questions on credibility of governor’s office. Students have lodged their complaints, but no action was taken. The office is equally guilty as it gave clean chit without ascertaining that varsity had no prior approval of AICTE to run course.”
