Decision on rent adjourned yet again
NASHIK: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) was supposed to hold a discussion on whether to rent out its properties at nominal rates or not at the general body meeting, however, the topic got adjourned for the fourth consecutive time on Thursday.
The civic body rents out its properties and open spaces like study halls, libraries, gymnasiums and community halls at nominal rates to organisations or institutes for social causes.
But it has been observed that some were used for commercial reasons.
The Bombay high court directed the NMC in June this year to formulate the guidelines on renting out their properties on the lines of the Pune Municipal Corporation, after a public insterest litigation (PIL) filed by Balasaheb Chowdhary, two years back. The HC had passed a similar order in Pune.
During the general body meeting, Shiv Sena group leader Ajay Boraste, said, "The matter is sub judice and we have to chalk out the guidelines. The group leaders of all parties should meet asnd study the issue and then we can discuss it. Let the topic be adjourned for a later date." However, no date was fixed.
The subject had been adjourned earlier twice, once in July and once in August.
Mayor Ashok Murtadak said that it would be adjourned for the present but no date was fixed.
"The HC said that if the property has been rented out for commercial purpose then NMC should get the revenue. The rate should be different from those rented for social causes. Also, if organizations are earning money from the social causes then the civic body should get its share. There should be separate rents for public utility and commercial purpose," said mayor Ashok Murtadak.
