Though he was unwell for a long time, the news of Ravi Chopra’s demise came as a shock to the industry folks and his friends. While many were seen  making their way to his residence to pay their heart-felt condolences, some went to the crematory to offer their last respects to the departed soul.

In memory of Ravi Chopra

A multitude of stars, both yesteryear and Gen-Next personalities from the film fraternity attended the late film-maker’s prayer meeting at Worli on November 15 to pay their condolences. Right from Jaya Bachchan to Imran Khan, most celebrated actors showed their solidarity by coming in large numbers. Even those who had never worked with the director-producer were present.

‘He gave his actors complete freedom’ 

I didn’t get a chance to meet Ravi Chopra during the making of Bhootnath Returns as he was unwell. Whatever suggestions he had to make were communicated through his wife Renuji. However, I’d worked with him earlier when he directed a commercial for me. During this span of time, we were together in Singapore for a few days. He was such a down-to-earth and humble person, considering he came from the famous Chopra clan. He was very friendly and open to suggestions from the team. He would take us out for lunch and shopping. I am still friends with both his sons Kapil and Abhay and hope to make another film with them someday.

Ravi Chopra was one of the finest human beings I have worked with. As a director, he gave his actors complete freedom and made them very comfortable. I was very fortunate to have worked with him and got to learn a lot from him which I now follow as a film-maker. I would not like to mourn this person who was so jovial, full of life and ever-smiling. I just wish he rests in eternal peace.
