Action Jackson is one action-comedy that’s full of surprises. Right from featuring Yami Gautam who’s starring in a comic role for the first time to its whacky plot which centers around a crook who believes that he is good luck for the apple of his eye. The film also touts itself to be a family entertainer and has music directed by none other than Himesh Reshammiya.
Keeda grabs your attention with its upbeat tempo and catchy lyrics by Shabbir Ahmed, Reshammiya is his usual self and sounds just like himself in a duet with Neeti Mohan. One can barely hear Mohan who has little scope to perform and gets drowned by Reshammiya’s voice. The song has the feel of a roadside romeo trying to woo a girl.
But Reshammiya is at his peak with Shalmali Kholgade in Chichora piya. For starters, you can barely understand what he’s singing, courtesy his strong accent and the word Chichora piya has been repeated endlessly.
You can breathe a sigh of relief as you finally hear other voices with Reshammiya, namely Ankit Tiwari, Vineet Singh, Arya Acharya and Alam Gir Khan who have collectively sung Punjabi mast. This Punjabi dance number is about the happy-go-lucky Punjabi community and is relatively more soothing and less blaring from the album. Speaking of dance songs, Gangster baby is a dance song with a difference, this number has a street dance feel and Mohan, who has sung in a duet, with Neeraj Shridhar manages to impress with her voice. The actress, popular for Ishq wala love from Student Of The Year and Jiya re from Jab Tak Hai Jaan has a versatile voice that’s neither too feminine nor too deep.
Just like all Bollywood films are incomplete without a romantic track, Action Jackson features Dhoom dhaam, a love song by Tiwari and Palak Muchal. The duo has earlier sung Chaahun mein ya naa in Aashiqui 2 but sadly they are unable to recreate the magic in this song.
Action Jackson‘s music has Himesh Reshammiya written all over it and one can now understand why Keeda has two other versions, a remix and a reprise too—As this song’s funky beats set it apart from the rest of the songs in the album which seem to have been inserted for the purpose of promoting the film. However, if you like music in masala entertainers, you’ll like the music of Action Jackson.
