Art Gallery to remove painting of Jacob Zuma with exposed genitals from display

Zeenews Bureau Johannesburg: The controversial painting of President Jacob Zuma with his genitals exposed, that took South Africa by storm will be removed from the Goodman Gallery and its website following a deal between the gallery and the African National Congress. The controversial painting by Cape Town artist Brett Murray drew flak from Gwede Mantashe, the secretary-general of African National Congress. The painting in question was defaced by two men last week, who reportedly managed to enter the gallery, where the painting was on display, with paint cans. Cameras installed at the gallery caught the two men defacing the painting and the entire episode was captured and aired on a news channel. However, art lovers had protested against the proposed ban on the painting. But efforts of hundreds of ANC supporters reaped fruit when the gallery homing the painting agreed to withdraw the painting from display. Following the deal, ANC has agreed to drop legal charges against the gallery.
