Street plays have always been an important tool in spreading awareness about a cause. Making use of this tool are the students of Lucknow University, who have prepared a street play to spread awareness about gender equality. The initiative, jointly undertaken by the UP police, College of Arts and Institute of Women Studies at LU, will kick-start from today at the College of Arts.
“Students from the College of Arts will stage the famous street play Aurat, which has an episodic structure. The idea is to sensitise people regarding women’s issues, while students from Lucknow University will sing songs on the same issue written by Kamla Bhasin, a feminist activist and gender trainer in South Asia,” shares Prof Rakesh Chandra, head, Philosophy department.
“We will start this drive from the College of Arts today at 4 PM and it will be inaugurated by the LU VC, Dr SB Nimse along with
ADG Sutapa Sanyal. We have selected five spots within the campus where the students will perform. We then plan to stage the nukkad natak at Lucknow University’s new campus, the Amity University and some public places. We hope to make a difference in people’s thinking with our efforts,” adds Prof Chandra.
