New Delhi, Nov 20: A new case of honour killing came to fore in Delhi where a 21-year-old final year student of Sri Venkateswara, Delhi University's college in south campus, was allegedly murdered by her family. As per reports, she was allegedly killed for marrying a boy from another caste and region.

The victim, Bhavna, was allegedly killed in Dwarka by her parents and uncle and then secretly cremated in her village in Alwar.

Bhavna's father, Jagmohan, a property dealer and local Congress party member, and mother Savitri have been arrested.

As per a TOI report, "Bhavna had on November 12 got married at an Arya Samaj temple to Abhishek Seth, 24, an assistant programmer at the Cabinet secretariat. Bhavna was a Yadav from Rajasthan while Abhishek is a Punjabi."

After the marriage, the couple was told by girl's parents that they should come home as a proper marriage will be organised by the parents.

"He told us that they would organize a proper marriage very soon so that they did not feel insulted in their community. After promising not to retract from his words, he took Bhavna away. I agreed, considering that their family prestige was at stake," Abhishek was quoted as saying in TOI.

After taking Bhavna home, she was tortured by her parents after which she ran away on November 14 and told Abhishek about it. Later, Bhavna's parents again went to Abhishek, apologised for their behaviour and took her back.

Bhavna's maternal uncle, Laakhan, called up Abhishek and threatened to kill both of them. "He was yelling and asking me to stay away from her. He said our marriage meant nothing and if I don't mend my ways, he would shoot us both," Abhishek added.

As per the daily's report, Bhavna was beaten up and strangled in her parents house and the body taken to Alwar in Rajasthan, the family's hometown to conduct her last rites so that no one get to know about her murder.

Bhavna's cousin called up Abhishek and told him that she had died and her body was also cremated, after which Abhishek got an FIR registered under sections of abduction (365 IPC).

Though parents told the police that she died because of snakebite, but later confessed that they had killed her.
