Hamilton HS of Bandon reached the knockout stages of the Dr Harty Cup after pulling off a miraculous fightback to beat Midleton CBS in Blackrock.

Last year's beaten semi-finalists were second-best for much of this encounter, trailing 0-9 to 0-1 before Cathal Maguire's goal got them going.

Even so, Midleton led by 0-15 to 1-5 at half-time, with Josh Beausang, John Looney and Brendan McCarthy impressive.

While Eoin O'Reilly and Darragh Curran pointed for 'the Hammies', they couldn't come closer than two points and Looney looked to have secured it for Midleton, making it 0-21 to 1-15 in the 60th minute.

Deep in injury-time, however, one Hamilton corner-back, Joe O'Mahony, managed to bundle the ball to the net after a scramble and then the other, Luke Murray, finished the job.

In Templemore, Nenagh were 1-17 to 0-16 winners against CBS HS Clonmel, Michael Brislane's late goal finally giving them breathing space.

Two other Cork schools are definitely in the last eight after St Francis College, Rochestown and Youghal's Pobalscoil na Tríonóide ensured their progression from Group 3.

Battle

Rochestown had to battle for a 0-16 to 0-13 victory against St Caimin's, with late points from Shane Kingston, Ciarán Cormack and Seán Powter securing a third victory in three games. Ben O'Gorman featured heavily among the scoring for Caimin's, who led by 0-7 to 0-5 at half-time.

In the other game, Youghal also fought back to beat Charleville CBS 0-18 to 2-11. Tim O'Mahony - who finished with 2-7 - and Darragh Fitzgibbon helped Charleville to a 1-8 to 0-7 interval lead, but Youghal were on top in the second half, Declan Dalton ending with 12 points.

In Group 1, Thurles CBS ensured their qualification with a 2-15 to 3-3 win against Blackwater CS. At half-time, Thurles trailed 2-2 to 0-5, the goals from Tommy Barron and Shane Bennett.

Kevin Duggan and Brendan Kelly both goaled for Thurles in the second half, with Niall Heffernan, Jack Butler and Robbie Long among the points. Barron scored a second Lismore goal.

Ardscoil Rís beat West Limerick Colleges 1-21 to 0-11 in Kilmallock, with Peter Casey scoring 1-8.

St Colman's College kept alive their hopes in Group 2 with a 5-11 to 0-5 win over De La Salle.

Dean Linehan's goal inside 10 seconds set the tone for Colman's and Jamie O'Leary also found the net as they led by 2-4 to 0-2 at half-time. O'Leary added another goal in the second half with Niall O'Leary and Stephen Condon also raising green flags.
