TOKYO -- A panel of experts working under Japan's nuclear watchdog reaffirmed Wednesday its earlier findings that an active fault lies directly underneath an idled reactor in Fukui Prefecture, raising the likelihood that the facility will be decommissioned.
At issue is the No. 2 reactor at the Tsuruga nuclear power plant, operated by Japan Atomic Power. The Nuclear Regulation Authority's expert panel reached the same conclusion in May last year, but the operator had requested a second look.
