JALANDHAR: Reacting strongly to Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Partap Singh Bajwa's comments comparing former chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal's niece Rosy Bhattal with "maara samaan" (poor material), while reacting to her induction in BJP on November 17 in the presence of senior leaders, Punjab BJP president Kamal Sharma said that Bajwa had "lost his balance due to utter frustration".
Activists of BJP Mahila Morcah burnt Bajwa's effigy on Wednesday evening. "How can a person of a sane mind use such derogatory language against women? Even if going by Bajwa's argument that Rosy Bhattal was a political non-entity, though her father remained a Congress MLA, and she is the niece of a former CM, how come such remarks be made about a woman?" questioned Sharma.
"It rather reflects Bajwa's own value system. He should take care that even if he is frustrated due to the Congress infighting, and his own party leaders attacking him. Bajwa should not use such language being state president of the party," he said. Meanwhile, Punjab BJP vice-president Suman Sehgal, district chief Sukhraj Kaur and councillor Suman Sehgal, who led the activists in burning Bajwa's effigy near Company Bagh, said the comments reflected Bajwa's political and personal culture.
"He should tender an apology. Women leaders of Congress should also clarify their stand on Bajwa's comment," said Sehgal, while adding that "such obnoxious comments and clear attack on the dignity of women would not be tolerated".
