THANE: In two separate incidents of graft, a senior clerk with the Vasai-Virar civic body and a constable from the Dombivli Government Railway Police (GRP) along with two persons, were arrested for demanding Rs 30,000 and 8,500 respectively.
In the first incident, accused Sandeep Khaniwadekar, the senior clerk, allegedly demanded Rs 30,000 from the complainant for transferring property rights.
On bargaining, the clerk came down to Rs 10,000 as the first installment, said Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sources.
After the complainant approached the ACB, a trap was laid at around 5:30pm on Tuesday and Khaniwadekar was held from the Kaman division office in Vasai east by the ACB sleuths while accepting Rs 10,000.
In the second incident, three persons, including the constable, were held for demanding Rs 8,500 from a hawker for conducting business on the railway platform at Dombivli. The hawker agreed to pay the sum in two installments and intimated the ACB.
A trap was laid and the constable, Kabir Pirjade, was held with his accomplices while accepting Rs 5,000 from the hawker.
The accused in both the cases have been booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
