The Korean franchise re-entered the Irish market early last year with a range of passenger and commercial vehicles.

SsangYong CEO Joe Harris said: "In many people's eyes we're the new kids on the block. Look a little further, though, and you'll discover a history that goes back to 1954 and one that is steeped in strong off-road capabilities.

"Many people will be surprised to hear that SsangYong first cut their teeth manufacturing off-road vehicles for the American army."

During recent off-road 4X4 days held in Carton House, SsangYong invited the press, dealers and public to test its range of 4x4 cars through muddy terrain, steep hills and treacherous descents. Cars on test included the Korando Sports, Rexton W and Korando Commercial.

"Agricultural consumers and business owners are where most of our sales will be in early 2015," said Harris. "We're quickly becoming known as the go-to brand for commercial vehicles.

"In the passenger market we've experienced success with the medium-sized crossover Korando and aim to build on the success of the Korando with the launch of our new X100 model in July. It will be our first 1.6 engine and will come in petrol and diesel. This will compete with the Renault Captur and Nissan Juke.

"It will also mean we will have a car for every family size – from the seven-seat Rodius to the medium-sized Korando crossover right down to the compact X100.

"With SsangYong sales increasing 41% in the European market since 2013, we predict continued growth for the SsangYong brand internationally and nationally over the coming year."
