Bayern Munich's supervisory committee and sporting director Matthias Sammer agreed on a three- year contract extension, the "Bavarians" confirmed in an official statement on Wednesday.
Chairman of the supervisory board Klaus Hopfner and Sammer penned the new contract until June 2018, which binds the former sporting director of the German Football Association (DFB) for another three years.
"The supervisory board backed the contract extension with Matthias Sammer unanimously at the last meeting. This is a big mark of confidence. We are delighted that Matthias takes the helm as our sporting director for another three years," Karl Hopfner said.
The 47-year-old Sammer joined Bayern Munich from the DFB in July 2012 to replace Christian Nerlinger. As the sporting director he is member of the management board and in charge of the players, staff and youth empowerment. During his first season as sporting director, in the season 2012/2013, he reaped the historic treble with the former coach Jupp Heynckes.
"I am grateful for the confidence of the supervisory board but also for the great cooperation with my colleagues of the board. I promise that I will continue with the same passion and intensity with which I have fulfilled this task so far. We all still have great goals with Bayern, I want to help to achieve these goals," Matthias Sammer said.
