Coetzee eyeing Eagles scalp

Cape Town - Rivaldo Coetzee insists Bafana Bafana are targeting nothing less than maximum points against Nigeria as they look to end their long-standing winless run against the Super Eagles.

South Africa travel to Uyo on Wednesday for the final round of 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, having already guaranteed themselves top spot in Group A.

Bafana have, however, never beaten the reigning African champions in a FIFA-approved encounter, but Ajax Cape Town's 18-year-old defender Coetzee believes that is about to end.

"We have to be professional," Coetzee told The Sowetan. "We can't just come here (to Nigeria) and play the game because we have to.

"We have qualified, but we want to change the history of our country and we want to beat Nigeria. We have never beaten them. We are going out there to get maximum points."

He added: "We have been working on our finishing. We have to be more clinical in front of goal. We create a lot of chances, but we do not convert as much as we should. We have to make sure that we convert and get them on the back foot."
