BJP chief Amit Shah asks party to be cautious of ‘NGO’ AAP

Shah met nearly 150 Delhi leaders at 11, Ashoka Road, the party’s national headquarters, giving them tips on how to win the elections.

He said winning the upcoming Assembly elections was important as the outcome would impact the elections in states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Assembly elections are due in Bihar next year and in Uttar Pradesh in 2017.

Shah asked party leaders in Delhi to welcome members from other parties into the BJP fold if they showed interest. “Induct as many as possible from other parties, is what he told us,” one leader said.

The national president asked the leaders to be active at polling booths and concentrate on voters’ lists. “We need to finish our work of knowing our voters in every ward ahead of the electoral list. We need to finish work of listing our key voters in every booth soon. Along with that, we need to campaign for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and the membership drive,” another senior leader said, on tips Shah gave to Delhi leaders.

Putting the onus of winning on the leaders who attended the meet, Shah said it is they who would be responsible for the Delhi elections.

“Each member has to take responsibility of five polling stations whereas MPs will cover five to seven polling stations and cabinet ministers will cover 10 to 15 polling stations. This is how work will be divided among the BJP leaders. The Union health minister has been given charge of hospitals whereas the Union HRD minister will concentrate on schools and colleges,” a senior party member said.

Ahead of campaigning, the Delhi unit has been told to organise 3,000 programmes for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. “We need to identify these 3,000 spots for the cleanliness drive as well,” the leader said.
