BHUBANESWAR: Odia feature film 'Krantidhara' has been nominated for two major film festivals - the 12th Chennai International Film Festival and the 7th Bengaluru International Film Festival (IFF).
It will be displayed in the Panorama section of Indian Cinema category in Chennai and is in the competitive category at the Bangalore festival to be held in December.
'Krantidhara' depicts the struggle of a woman in a socio-political scenario.
"It is encouraging that the film is selected for two film festivals. Based on the burning issue of reservation for women at the panchayat level, its effect on the life of rural people has been highlighted in the film in a positive manner," said director of the film Himanshu Khatua.
Samaresh Routray and Gargi Mohanty play lead roles in the film along with actors such as Debasish Patra, Pushpa Panda, Bijaylaxmi, Rinky, Asutosh and Prakriti playing major roles.
"This is the first Odia film with sync sound. The entire film has been edited on line on the spot. Most of characters are village people," said Khatua, who has made several award-winning films such as 'Sunya Swaroopa' and 'Kathantara'.
The film has been made under the banner of Kadambini Media Pvt. Ltd. Ajay Mishra edited the film, sync sound is by Bhabani Mallick and sound design by Manas Choudhury.
"I play a very corrupt politician, who also gets his wife into politics for his own vested interests. But he encounters stiff opposition from his wife for his wrongdoings. It is a very interesting movie and its selection for the Chennai and Bengaluru International Film festivals is encouragement for the whole team," Samaresh said.
