Women on top, says Agnieszka Radwanska

In the last two-years six-different women players have won eight Grand Slams titles
Hyderabad: In the last two-years six-different women players have won eight Grand Slams titles against the big-four winning the last 17 Grand Slams titles in a row on the men’s side, reason enough for Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska to believe the women’s draw is much more open than the men’s.
“I think women’s tennis is more open with a lot of players breaking into the top-10 and winning different titles including the Grand Slams. It’s really difficult to say anything as things change pretty quickly and rankings change every week,” Radwanska said in a candid chat along the sidelines of the Champions Tennis League being played in the city.
“A player plays a couple of good tournaments and breaks into the top-10. But what really is difficult is to be at it and remain in the top-10,” she added.
Speaking about the upcoming season, the 2012 Wimbledon runner-up said, “I have been playing tennis for nine years now and it’s about time I win a Grand Slam title. I was close to winning the Wimbledon but missed out and I think I have better chances of winning on grass but the same time I don’t mind winning other Grand Slams as well.”
Radwanska, who hails from a country that has just a handful of tennis players, says things are changing back home. “Poland doesn’t really have a big history in tennis. For many years I was pretty much by myself on the circuit.
But now we have loads of upcoming players back home. We have some really good boys coming up the ranks and also some really good doubles players in the women’s category. I hope we see a lot more Polish players on the top,” the 25-year-old said.
How tough is it to square up to Serena? “Serena is really on fire. She is still in good shape and is playing very her best tennis. And when she’s at the top of her game it’s really difficult to beat her,” Radwanska said.
