ACB traps ASI while taking Rs 30,000 bribe
YAVATMAL: A team of Yavatmal Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday trapped a cop attached to Wani police station while accepting a bribe of Rs30,000 from the complainant for absolving him of the charges of transformer theft committed in the neighbouring district of Adilabad in Andhra Pradesh.
According to Yavatmal ACB deputy superintendent of police Satish Deshmukh, they received a complaint against assistant police inspector attached to the Wani police station following which a trap was laid in the house of the accused ASI Syed Jahruddin Syed Bahruddin on Tuesday.
The complainant was sent to the accused with the bribe amount of Rs30,000 and the ASI was caught red-handed while accepting money.
“An FIR was filed against the complainant in a police station in Adilabad district, alleging that he had committed the theft of a transformer,” Deshmukh said. The accused had assured the complainant to absolve him of the theft case and would not either arrest him or hand him over to Adilabad police and give him a clean chit from the theft charge provided he (the complainant) gave Rs30,000. The complainant agreed to grease the palms of the accused cop and later lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Yavatmal.
“We laid the trap at the house of the accused and arrested him under sections 7 (13) 1(D) read with section 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act while accepting the bribe,” Deshmukh added.
Further investigation is in progress at Wani police station where an FIR was filed by ACB.
