Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao said the government was ready to spend about Rs. 523.7 crore for the development of roads in the district.
In an audio conference with the district reporters from Hyderabad on Tuesday, Mr. Harish Rao said the roads laid before 2009 were in a bad shape and people were unable to use them as they were riddled with potholes. Hence, the government has decided to develop 1,728-km length roads at an estimated cost of Rs. 209.22 crore, he said adding that another Rs. 4.7 crore would be spent on construction of culverts and causeways.
Mr. Harish Rao informed that the government has also decided to spend another Rs. 200 crore for converting 500-km metal roads to black top roads at a cost of Rs. 49 lakh per km. Stating that the roads would be laid as per the regulations under the Prime Minister Grameen Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), he said the amount was enhanced from Rs. 30 lakh for a km to Rs. 49 lakh a km with a condition that the contractor should maintain the road for the next five years and also has to take up repairs, if required. He said the allotment would be made to all constituencies based on the requirement.
Referring to tribal areas in Narayanakhed and Narsapur Assembly constituencies, the Minister said that mud roads would be laid for these tandas as an initiation and the government has already released Rs. 70 crore for the purpose.
Out of the total Rs. 213.22 crore sanctioned for the district, Rs. 27 crore was allotted for Gajwel followed by Rs. 13 crore for Siddipet, Rs. 20 crore for Medak, Rs. 17 crore – Dubbak, Rs. 16 crore – Sangareddy, Rs. 10 crore – Patancheru, Rs. 32 crore each for Narsapur and Zaheerabad, Rs. 25 crore – Narayanakhed and Rs. 20 crore for Andol constituency, he added.
