The police will now face the music if they mentally harass the victims of sexual assault while registering the complaint. The victims of sexual assault can now report such harassment by police to the sub-committee on preventing sexual assault against women and children.
Disclosing this to reporters in Bengaluru on Tuesday after a meeting with the members of the sub-committee, Ms. Motamma said the victims of sexual assault can report any mental harassment by police to her at Room 338, Third Floor, Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru – 01.
She was also considering setting up a 24-hour helpline to receive such complaints while a Facebook page would also be opened by the sub-committee, she noted. Pointing out that the committee had been given three-month time to file its report, she said the sub-committee would visit the districts to analyse the ground-level situation.
She said the sub-committee would hold consultations with academicians and journalists too to elicit their views on preventing incidents of sexual assaults. She appealed to media to desist from repeatedly beaming the rape incidents to the effect of demoralising the victims and their families.
