Kalagrama, a facility for holding craft melas and activities all through the year, has been proposed in Mysuru.
Conceptualised on the lines of Surajkund tourism complex near Faridabad in Haryana, which draws tourists, especially international tourists, Kalagrama is being considered for Mysuru which is reckoned to be the country’s one of the most preferred tourist destinations. Surajkund is famous for the crafts mela.
“No final decision has been taken on the concept (Kalagrama). The proposal is still in discussion stage. We already have an urban haat in Mysuru and are thinking whether another facility for year-long art-based activities and other events was necessary,” Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha told The Hindu .
The Department of Tourism, at a recent meeting of district tourism development committee here, suggested for establishing Surajkund-type Kalagrama in Mysuru that can be another tourist attraction.
“The proposal will be taken up for discussion in the upcoming meetings to come up with a clear-cut plan, including the availability of land and so on,” she said.
