Centre compelling us to go on strike: AIRF

November 18, 2014 01:51 pm | Updated 01:51 pm IST - HUBBALLI:

All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) has said that the Narendra Modi-led Government at the centre was compelling the railwaymen to go on strike by continuously ignoring their rightful demands and ‘open arm welcome’ to Foreign Direct Investment’.

National President of AIRF Rakhal Das Gupta and General Secretary Shiva Gopal Mishra who are in Hubbali to participate in the 90th annual convention of AIRF, told presspersons on Tuesday that while they believed in the path of negotiation, the moves made by the union government without consulting the federation on railway issues were making the railwaymen impatient.

Mr. Mishra said that AIRF would take a final decision on the strike on December 11 in consultation with the trade unions of other central government employees across the nation. “We are for sorting out issues through dialogue. But we feel that a general strike is being imposed upon us”, he said.
