SURAT: A 26-year-old Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL) employee miraculously survived a 440 volt electric shock on Udhna Road on Sunday afternoon.
Jaydeep Patel, who is employed as Vidhyut Sahayak in DGVCL's Surat industrial, division, had climbed on the pole to repair some fault in the high-tension line. However, current started flowing accidentally and Patel was electrocuted.
He was hanging upside down by the pole for almost 10 minutes and his legs got tangled into the wire and the frame of the pole.
Despite being electrocuted, Patel used his presence of mind and cut some wires with a plier.
The fire officials informed that they received a call at around 3.50 pm on Sunday. He was rescued by fire officials and admitted to a private hospital at Udhna cross roads.
"Patel had suffered burn injuries on the back but was able to speak properly. His condition was normal," informed fire control room.
Sources claimed that normally a man dies due to shock on high-tension line. However, in this incident the employee survived with injury.
"A detailed inquiry has been carried out in the incident and action has been taken against those responsible. It was a mistake by the staffers, who did not follow the procedure which led to the incident. Patel is also equally responsible in the incident. Further actions will be taken once we complete the inquiry," said P R Sharma, superintending engineer, DGVCL.
