PDD’s failure leaves Pulwama in darkness

Excelsior Correspondent
Srinagar, Nov 17:  Hundreds of people from around a dozen villages in Pulwama today blocked Srinagar-Pulwama road, protesting the failure of the Power Development Department to provide them electricity.
The residents of several villages including Pinglen, Tirch, Ratnipora, Narwa, Lajoora are reeling under darkness due to what they say callous attitude of the PDD in repairing the damaged transformer at Narwa Grid that provides power to them.
Irate residents told Excelsior that after the floods their area is without electricity.
The locals said they have been getting only two-hour minimal power supply for the last two months and despite repeated complaints to the PDD officials their problem has not been addressed yet.
Interestingly, Pulwama is represented by Member of Parliament, Ghulam Nabi Wani. But locals said repeated requests to Wani fell on deaf ears. Similarly, other villages echoed the resentment against the PDD officials and their legislator.
The residents blocked the road till noon from morning and warned that they will teach the “failing” representatives in the coming Assembly elections.
Executive Engineer Transmission, Ajaz Ahmad told Excelsior that a transformer at Narwa grid has been damaged and it would take PDD about seven weeks to repair it.
But the villagers said they will intensify their protests and lock down the PDD office in Pulwama if the transformer is not immediately repaired.
