Even as the summer internship placements of the 2014-16 Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management batch at IIM Ahmedabad drew to a close on Monday, the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) made the highest internship offers of 16 to the batch. The summer placement process which began from November 11 was conducted in three clusters with the third one ending on Monday.
that saw firms like Accenture Strategy, Bharti Airtel, McKinsey & Co. make more than 10 offers each.
Among global investment banks, Goldman Sachs was the largest recruiter, having picked nine students for roles in financial markets, investment banking and financial strategy. In the FMCG sector, HUL made nine offers for various roles, such as sales and marketing and finance.
Among general management firms, Bharti Airtel made 11 offers, which was the highest, while in the technology sector, Amazon was the largest recruiter having extended nine offers to students for roles in marketing, operations, product marketing and product management.
Recruiters in the consulting space included global strategy consulting and niche consulting firms like Accenture Strategy, Alvarez & Marsal, A. T Kearney, Bain & Co., the Boston Consulting Group, Hay Group, McKinsey & Co., Monitor Deloitte, PwC Advisory, Strategy and amongst others.
The financial services sector witnessed participation from global investment banks and included Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, Morgan Stanley and UBS amongst others. A large number of students also took up roles in sales and marketing in various companies such as Asian Paints, HUL, ITC, Mondelēz, Nestle, P&G and United Colors of Benetton.
General management and leadership profiles were offered to students by Aditya Birla Group, Bharti Airtel, CK Birla Group, and Tata Administrative Services amongst others. Students secured roles in technology sector firms such as Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, while the pharmaceutical companies that participated in the process included Abbott, Cipla and GlaxoSmithCline Pharmaceuticals.
The summer placement process at IIMA was completed within three clusters wherein firms were grouped into cohorts based on the profile offered, and groups of cohorts were invited to campus across different clusters.
Even as students are allowed to make a “dream” application to any firm of their choice even with an offer in hand; this year saw 12 students take up the option of working under the Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) at IIMA on their entrepreneurial ideas in the summer of 2015, provided by the institute.
Sumit Patil, the recruitment secretary at IIMA said, “With firms looking forward to increase their hiring from IIMA, students got opportunities across different sectors such as BFSI, Consulting, FMCG, Internet and E-Commerce, Media, Pharmaceuticals, Social Sector and Technology and telecom among others. The institutes also promotes entrepreneurship through “Entre Fair” as well as enabling interested students to work under the guidance of CIIE.”
